canon eos 80d dslr camera body only is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent upgrade from a 50D Having owned a 50D from new and sensing that technology was moving ahead without me, I looked around for a camera body that enabled me to upgrade without sacrificing my investment in Canon's excellent range of lenses. Although tempted to go full frame, I felt that the cost was unjustifiable and, besides, I am more than happy with the smaller sensor of the 50D. The 80D promised a massive comparative increase in pixels, and a vast upgrade in focus points, both features that I was looking for. The inclusion of a tilt and turn live view screen was, in view, a bit of a novelty and almost put me off. I bought the body-only, and spent the next few weeks, yes weeks, meticulously reading the manual whilst practising the features, dials, buttons, etc. I wanted the camera to be intuitive when pressed in to action for the first time, shooting the Northern Lights in Norway. I have previously bought after market guide books to assist with getting the most from a new camera but, on this occasion, I found the manual to be pitched just right and the differences, although noticeable and significant, felt natural enough to enable me to dispense with that necessity. The camera itself, used with both an EF 17-40 and EF 70-300, feels balanced in the hand, and is positive when shooting. Auto focusing is incredibly quick, and there is no delay when squeezing the shutter release. The resultant images, at both JPEG and RAW specs, are impressively sharp and tonally pleasing with little noticeable noise at high ISO or long exposures (optional internal settings help, of course). On that point, the range of menu options is practical and easy to adjust 'in flight'. To my surprise, I found the live view to be especially helpful when manually focusing in almost total darkness for long exposure shooting, taking advantage of the magnification feature to focus crisply. Build quality is excellent. The body is solid, not at all 'plasticy', and whilst not heavy it carries enough weight to feel like it will withstand a knock. Dials and buttons are intelligently placed in my view, and it took only a few days to become accustomed to the layout changes over the 50D. If you are upgrading from a 60D or 70D you will probably find the transition even easier. To summarise, this is a great upgrade from a 50D, with the improvements in spec and handling fully justifying the outlay. The image produced is impressively sharp and, at the end of the day, that is key to me. I have thought hard and long to identify a fault and I can't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from under rated - its a gem i this a couple of months ago and ive been struggling to move to manual - this camera has definnitely allowed me to make the jump - the live view, ease of operation, features and simplicity of use is all you need to move into the big league, ok you still have a long way to go, but its great at everything - the touch screen is just the tops for moving about on what would otherwise be a confusing menu. my rec is just buy one

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great AF I bought an EOS80D primarily for wildlife and action photography and it spends a significant amount of the time attached to my EF100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS II lens. The performance of this combination is very impressive and the 80D’s ability to focus at f8 means that you can use an EF1.4x extender with the 100-400mm lens, and still have 27 focus points active. Much of my photography involves walking somewhere, with camera equipment in a rucksack, so both size and weight are important factors. The 80D is excellent in this respect and although it may not be as weather resistant as a EOS7D, I have had no problems with it even though it has been used in some fairly harsh conditions. For low light conditions I’d always opt for my EOS6D, but for birds in flight and action photography it will always be the EOS80D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superfast Focussing My 60D died after 540,000 clicks. What to buy next as a wrinkly 70 year old serious snapper was a big decision ~ SLR again or modern Mirrorless Compact ? The choice came down to feel in the hand and I decided on the 80D. It felt like my old 60D and I stayed in my comfort zone. Have I any regrets ? Not one ! ~~ Have I any second thoughts after a couple of months of heavy use ? None ! ~~ Have I had any problems ? Yes ........ but not with the Camera. I've been struggling a little with the switch from Adobe Bridge to DPP4 to convert the 80D Raw Files. It's only been a problem because I've been using Adobe Bridge for so many years but I am getting there and I'm now finding some real benefits in using DPP4 plus it has a pseudo HDR function that creates surprising images from one raw file ! My real plus points for my 80D are its superfast focussing, razor sharp images and much more accurate exposure modes than the 60D. Would I recommend the 80D ? You bet !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Design of controls and menu features are excellent The manual is easy to follow and download able. The controls are conveniently positioned & menus easy to use. The camera is quite light too. Battery life is excellent. The flip screen has been really useful especially for low shots and Liverpool view is good for an instant check on exposure. The wireless function has proved extremely useful, transfer to tablet without access to a network is possible using canon's camera connect, have used this on iPhone and Android tablet. I still have lots to learn about this camera but really enjoy using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic camera for all occassions I bought my camera a few months ago and I am impressed by the quality of my pictures. By all means, I am no pro photographer, but the settings and intuitive menu allows me to get better even if shooting in manual. I use my camera mainly on holidays and on walks with my dog. I can't fault the camera, admittedly I dropped it on a hard floor and nothing broke. Would really recommend for anyone who want to get better in photography but doesn't want to outgrow the camera within an year or two.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great intermediate camera Moved up from the 1200d . Which was an outstanding camera. So the 80d had big shoes to fill for me. It did it very well. I slipped into the next level of Canon brilliance with a little stutter but now I am on manual settings and experimenting with my photography. Love the security of the metal body (hiking is sometimes treacherous on cameras ). The closeable display comes in handy too, also it swivels for those group or selfie shots. It will do me for a couple of years until I decide to try the next level. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Top End Crop Sensor DSLR Have had this camera about a month now...and is as good as I expected from the reviews. If you are an enthusiast like me, who likes to dabble in a variety of photographic styles, then this is the go. Very versatile. 7fps for action photography. Great in low-light. 45 point AF and 24.2MP. It's the jack of all trades and I love it.
