Rated 5 out of 5 by Alexandria from The Most Bang For Your Buck! I am an amateur photographer that is broadening my skill set. Someone suggested to me to either try the AF-S 35mm or the 50mm. I went with the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G and I am so glad that I did. The way that this lens performs in low light situations is perfection. The bokeh it produces is beautiful. I have tested it on my dog and on people and the way I can easily transition on the manual settings is unmatchable for any of the other lenses I have. I can easily change the Aperture and Shutter Speed in a jiffy and the quality is consistent. I highly recommend this lens for anyone because it's so fairly priced, you cannot pass it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by YourPhotography from Phenomenal Portrait Lens I'm a studio portrait and on location Photographer for about 10+ years and have been researching a new lens for several years. This 50mm 1.8 is so much fun to photograph with. It allows me to get up close in portraits and still get a great blurred background. I haven't used it for more then 5 feet away from a subject but it serves pretty darn well so far. I feel this lens is a must have for any photographer looking for a portrait lens. The 1.8 f stop is perfect for portraits, newborns, and even if you are into product photography! If you are looking to get into photography you Have to have this in your camera bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from This lens is worth every penny. I recently bought this lens and from the moment I started snapping, I was in love. The focus is so fast and so crisp and the manual and auto focus both are incredible. The manual focus ring is really, really easy to use as well. The focus is so sharp, too. The image quality is fantastic. It's small and easy to carry with you too, which might just be something I enjoy having, but it's a bonus. This is first lens I have used besides my kit lens and I'm happy this is the one I picked. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone. It's easy to use and the images it produces are mind blowing. If you are having second thoughts about purchasing this lens - don't. It's absolutely amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Excellent for the Price..... One of the best lens for portrait and low light photography....Still it cannot beat 50mm f/1.4 G but its value for the money..... 1. AF-S AF-S AF-S (very fast focus, internal focus, and very silent) 2. M/A mode (manual focus override available on autofocus mode) 3. Very sharp pictures 4. Great for sport/action photography 5. Great for indoor and low light situation 6. Great for portrait 7. Bokeh is almost as good as many expensive Nikon tele-lens Compared to 50mm F1.8: Fast and accurate focusing. Good Contrast. Very Sharp images Bottomline: Everyone should have this lens. I think and I am sure this lens would be hard to find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jamdvx from Good even for D5000 I'm another one D5000 user using this excellent lens, sincerly I don't take care about DX, FX or crop sensor or formats, I see the photo results and I'm fine and so satisfied. Good price, nice performance, sharp images, fast focus through viewfinder, good option to manual-focus even when the automatic is swithced on, the settings in the D5000 work good with this lens and of course the automatic functions work good and excellent depending the situation or scene . Don't be afraid to get this one , 50mm is not wide angle but enough to portraits or outdoors and landscapes or scenes, you won't repent. f/1.8 or come other aperture like f/4 brings nice bokeh blur.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Better Than Expected This lens was recommended to me by my friend after I was complaining about shooting in low light for indoor sports. It is very inexpensive, so I bought it. I love this lens. It is so useful, and it has helped me produce some phenomenal pictures in low light. The depth of field has a very large range, so it is very versatile. The build is good, nothing special, just a standard plastic structure. The autofocus is accurate and fast; perfect for close-up sports. However, I use this lens now for so many other things like nature and other stills. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by WETSU76 from Great Lens After getting my D3300 with the two (2) kit lenses, this is was my next purchase. Now this lens is my go-to lens for portraits during family events and documenting our baby's first few months. Make sure you get comfortable with aperture priority and open this up all the way to 1.8 and be amazed at what your photography can be with some decent glass and excellent shallow depth of field. I've managed to get some amazing shots indoor during the early evening in low-light situations without a speedlight, which always prompts the question what flash did you use and when I say nothing everybody wants to know the lens I use. The humble 50mm prime as made me a believer - nifty fifty indeed !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BartelPhotography from My Favorite Lens I am by no means a professional at what I do, but I can tell you that this lens is phenomenal. I participate in yearbook at my high school where we have 15 different cameras with tons of different lenses and this is the only one I will use. In fact, I just bought a D3300 for myself this last week and made sure to pick up the nifty fifty 1.8G with it. Absolutely love it!!
