Gourmet Institute “Party Down” With Matt Wilkinson

Harvey Norman, together with Australian Gourmet Traveller, is proud to present the Gourmet Institute, featuring Australia’s most exciting chefs conducting a series of exclusive master classes in Sydney and Melbourne.

From 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday 13th November 2013 at the Harvey Norman Chadstone store, chef Matt Wilkinson will be conducting his “Party Down” cooking demonstration, which is all about fun food that’ll get your parties started. We sat down with Matt before his Gourmet Institute appearance for a quick chat:


Matt WilkinsonHarvey Norman: Would you say you’re an avid party goer?

Matt Wilkinson: I wouldn’t say “avid” but I’ve been to my fair share of parties. At the moment I seem to be at kids’ parties mainly, where — I have to be honest — I’m astounded by some of the party food on offer… 


HN: Do you cringe when people serve frozen party pies and sausage rolls at parties?

MW: How can anybody cringe at a well-made —ideally, homemade — sausage roll or pie? Personally, I love them but what makes it a real cracker is if they’re served with a great relish or chutney.


HN: What are the top three party foods you make?

MW: A cheeky little chocolate brownie is always a winner. It’s always funny to see people eating the old “pickle, cheese and salami on a toothpick in a pineapple” – it always gets snapped up. And my little feta and spinach parcels seem to go down well, too.


Matt was kind enough to leave us with his recipes for “Golden Spiced Quail Kiev” and “The Best-Ever Potato Scallops” – whip up these tasty treats for your next party.
