There’s another innovative Dyson available at Harvey Norman: the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum.
Since I recently reviewed the Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean stick vacuum, the team figured I’d be in a good position to compare and test out the Dyson Omni-glide as well. In terms of the Dyson V15 vs Dyson Omni-glide, even just from looking at the box, I could tell this would be something unique. For starters, the Omni-glide is about half the size of the Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean.
But I’m getting ahead of myself a bit. Before we talk more about the Dyson V15 vs Dyson Omni-glide, let’s firstly go through some important questions about what this new Dyson vacuum is all about.
What is the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum?
The first thing you need to know about the Dyson Omni-glide is that it’s billed as Dyson’s slimmest, most manoeuvrable vacuum*. And they can back it up! This thing is slim indeed, and it handles like a sportscar. Take your standard stick vac, then basically halve the size and you’ll get the idea.
How does the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum ‘glide’?
I know what you’re thinking. ‘How can it glide if it’s a vacuum cleaner? Shouldn’t it suck?’
Amazingly, it does both!
When I first turned the Dyson Omni-glide on it felt very different to what I’ve come to expect from other stick vacuums. And that’s because it is very different.
The name Omni-glide comes from the awesome omnidirectional Fluffy™ cleaner head – which is a new first for Dyson. This thing floats on four 360° stabilising castors that allow it to move in all directions and into tight spaces. Meanwhile, two counter-rotating Fluffy™ rollers pick up all kinds of large debris and fine dust – when moving forwards, backwards and even sideways.
The Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum also has an articulating neck, which makes it effortless to manoeuvre around obstacles and into small spaces†. It moves where you want it to without the resistance you might expect from something one-directional.
This vacuum from Dyson really does feel like it’s just gliding over the floor. I had to stop and check the dust bin on it to see if it was working – and yes, it was indeed cleaning my floor effectively!
It might take a few minutes to get used to the new Dyson Omni-glide head, but once you do, you’ll be gliding around the house with only one hand on the wheel.
What is the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum designed for?
The Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum is basically the new best friend for homes with hard floors.
Whether you’ve got timber, tiles, vinyl, laminate or polished concrete on your floor, the Dyson Omni-glide has got it covered.
Powered by a Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor, the Omni-Glide offers up to 20 minutes of fade free power‡. In terms of the Dyson V15 vs Dyson Omni-glide, this smaller model naturally has a bit less runtime.
However, given how effective at cleaning the Omni-glide is, you can still get a lot done in 20 minutes. I have a 2-bedroom apartment, and I managed to go over all of my floors without needing to recharge it. So, if you’ve got an apartment or small house with hard floors, this is for you.
Exactly how slim is the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum?
The Omni-glide stick vacuum is very slim indeed, thanks to a new format from Dyson. This new design has seen the component parts become condensed and streamlined.
Say goodbye to the bulky trigger grip – it’s been replaced by a couple of simple buttons on the grip that you can use with your thumb. This makes it a lot easier to swap hands while cleaning – and not having to keep your finger on the trigger is certainly handy. I love this improvement!
With the bulk now removed, the Dyson Omni-glide can really get down low and clean in tight spaces – like under a sofa. The articulating neck gives it the ability to still have perfect contact with the floor while lying flat.
What accessories does the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum come with?
Apart from the omnidirectional Fluffy cleaner head – discussed above – and the charger and docking station, the Dyson Omni-glide stick vacuum comes with other accessories. These include a Workshop tool, a Combination tool and a Mini motorised tool.
This selection of cleaning attachments will cover all manner of vacuuming jobs – from the kitchen and home office, to the car and picking up after pets. As always with Dyson stick vacuums, it’s simple to click on a new attachment and transform the Omni-glide into a versatile handheld that can go wherever you need it.
