Rated 5 out of 5 by Steve's manager from Replaced my trusty 530 - no regrets I have owned a 530 for about 8 years and used it as the daily cleaner in our house all that time. I have replaced 2 batteries and a brush-head unit but whenever I looked at replacing him I was put off by the price and the fact that he was still cleaning fine. Finally bought this one (I don't need to replace the lighthouse from the 530 - in fact I haven't even changed the batteries on that!) This one schedules which my other one didn't and now cleans every day. In one week we have noticed a change in carpet colour due to the amount of pet hair coming out of the carpet. The bin is filling up before the clean cycle finishes but this is to be expected as the Roomba conditions the floors. I have been putting him out for another go round if I am around to do it. The increased suction and different brush-head unit are a significant improvement and having a very hairy cat I can vouch for the cleaning power of the 866. It is a little taller than the old Roomba and does not do under so much of my furniture as the 530 but the cleaning power bonus is easily worth the trade off as most of what we have is too low anyway. In summary - if you are undecided and you can afford the price but it seems a bit much I would recommend that you buy it immediately as you will only wonder why you left it so long once you have it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by godfrey_110 from it was not what i expected for $1000. the first day i put it on charge over night and schedule it to start at 8 am by 8:50am it was back at the docking station and had only done half of my living area (90 sq mts) and missed a lot dirt . the next day i thought i would cut the area by a third with a chair as it came with no lighthouse like they do overseas. this helped but it still missed along some of the edges but run for an hour before going back to the base as this floor was tile.the next day i put it to work down the front a bout 30sq mts most of it carpet but only run for 40 min but did a reasonable job. i phoned the 1300 number to find out if there was a problem with the battery and they said it would get better after a three weeks , also the left wheel had started to squeak in reverse. so after 7 days i returned it . very disappointed as i had heard a lot of good thing about them so i have purchased the roomba 960 it is on its second run of the whole house and will review it later.

I'm in a 1br appartment with carpet and hard floors, covers entire area. Perfect for under the bed, couch and tv unit. Docking station is light and moves easily, so ocassionaly struggles to dock. Too noisy to watch tv while it's on. I've always hated vacuuming, should have bought one sooner. I picked this model which is better with hair, ideal for me with hair below my shoulders.
