Rated 5 out of 5 by JS in Sussex from Great compact camera I bought this camera on a friend's recommendation, and I am very pleased with it. It is light and easy to carry around my neck on its strap, whilst having the features and results of a much heavier SLR. The picture quality that I get is excellent, and operation of the camera including using the many features is fairly straightforward once used to the menu system. Very occasionally a picture taken seems to become corrupted before saving properly onto the SD card, which only becomes apparent when played back, but this is thankfully rare. Overall, it's a great camera for its price, and makes high quality photography accessible without the need to carry a large SLR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BPae from Lightweight Semi-professional Camera I bought this camera because I would like to work as a photographer later, so I need to take photos for my portfolio, and a smartphone camera or a compact camera like the Sony Cybershot series might not provide the necessary picture quality. But this camera definitely does, especially for the price. It might not be a fully professional camera, mainly because it doesn't have a full frame sensor, but in most situations it's sufficient for taking impressive photos. There are many different modes, I was particularly impressed by a night scene mode which takes clear pictures at night with very little light without the flashlight or a tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rorionb from Great Camera - weaker than expected battery I absolutely love my Sony A6000. My photos are consistently great - super luscious bokeh for a total amatuer. I did not buy the kit lens, rather bought the body the SEL35F18 fixed lens (52mm equivalent). Love the lens - creates a few awkward moments when the lens is not wide enough for space I am in - but fully compensated by the fabulous photos of my son. Very fast - great feel in the hand. The Autofocus sometimes has a bit of a mind of its own - sometimes hard to get to lock onto the subject I want. The other major gripe is the battery life is too short. Basically it needs to be recharged after every outing. I doubt it would make it through a whole day of heavy use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by kdoc from Fantastic camera Best camera I've owned. Prefer it to the A7 (for me), because it's lighter, smaller, cheaper, and the lenses are often lighter and cheaper. Also it's autofocus is superior, it has faster fps (11), excellent "tracking," (You can focus on a moving subject while shooting a still image, and the focus will track the subject. Very good higher ISO (but not as good as the A7). Better for sports shooting too. And a very good lens lineup--with some additions coming, I'm sure. The video, shot at 28 MP, 60 fps is excellent. Does lack a touch screen and convenient input for an external mic. Given it's price, it would be a crime not to get one, unless you've something similar or the A7.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jmatacola from @6000 Best Ever? great camera with professional features packed into an affordable package. You get more than 11fps and I have never seen any camera focus faster than this one. It is even possible to change the focal point by using the fine focus adjustment. Do not be warned off by what appears to be the many complexities of this awesome camera. Even if you just use a few settings because you can program them for use with a touch of one button. So many options and ways to shoot and so little time..

Rated 4 out of 5 by RHerrero from Great camera, missing essentials My review will be short as I've just received the camera and have not had a ton of time to play with it. I'm familiar with the Nex line coming from my 5N so I don't expect there to be much about this camera that I dislike. The menu system is different and requires a bit getting used to, but that is minor. The camera feels solid in your hands, looks sleek and professional and the auto focus is FAST. My biggest gripe is not actually with the camera itself, it is with Sony's lack of included essentials. The 'kit' did not include a body cap for the camera nor a back cap for the lens - these are two large oversights in my opinion. What am I supposed to do when I go to put a different lens on the camera in order to protect the lens innards from dust and dirt? Or when I pack up the camera and my lenses into a bag, I am unable to protect the sensor of the camera because a body cap (which is actually in the description of what is included in the kit on the website) was not included? I am extremely disappointed by the lack of these two items because now I have to go purchase and wait for them to arrive seperately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Raccoon from The Future of Photography I had photography classes in high school some forty years ago. When digital cameras came a long, I bought a couple of pont and shoots, but wanted to get something better. I followed the A6000 on line before it was as released and bought one last May. This camera is just amazing. I'm still learning how to use the advanced features, but have been easily able to use it as an advanced point and shoot while I'm learning. The picture quality is outstanding. It's small and light. I think you will see more manufacturers making cameras like this and more people giving up their big, heavy DSLRs. I am very happy with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by No nicknames from Very nice little camera. I already have a DSLR which is fine and works well, but I bought the a5000 to use as a 'Bridge' camera. One of my main photographic interests is Street or Urban photography and the a5000, compared to the DSLR, is perfect in this field. It is small, with the flip-up EV screen it is less obtrusive, the shutter is quieter, it gives me full manual control when I need it, the 20+MP, APS-C sensor produces an excellent picture, and it outputs RAW ! All in all, a good buy !! One criticism however, the instruction book is far from comprehensive !!! I've had to learn to drive it mainly by trial and error !
