Women in League – Emma Manzelmann

North Queensland Cowboys | NRLW Leader

Emma Manzelmann has become one of the NRLW’s leading hookers for the North Queensland Cowboys, known for her speed around the ruck and sharp service. Comfortable at hooker she brings intensity and control to the middle of the field.

Raised on a rural property in Mackay, Queensland, Manzelmann grew up balancing sport with life in a regional community. She attended St Patrick’s College and began her rugby league journey with the Walkerston Wanders and Souths Junior Sharkies, progressing through Queensland pathways to reach the elite level.

Manzelmann’s rise to the top level has been defined by consistency and impact, with her performances in 2023 marking a breakout season across both club and representative rugby league. Her ability to control tempo and provide direction through the middle has made her a central figure in the Cowboys lineup.

Off the field, Manzelmann balances elite sport with her trade as a qualified light vehicle mechanic, completing her apprenticeship in 2024. Her ability to manage both environments reflects her discipline and commitment beyond rugby league.

Before committing fully to rugby league, Manzelmann competed as a national-level swimmer, racing against some of Australia’s top athletes, including Ariarne Titmus and Kaylee McKeown, an experience that contributed to her athletic development and competitive mindset.

Strongly connected to her roots in North Queensland, Manzelmann remains driven by representing her region and contributing to the local community. Her journey from a rural upbringing to the NRLW continues to shape her approach to the game and her role within it.
