Friday is usually everyone’s favourite day of the week, but certain things can make it just that bit sweeter – like being given the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate Handstick Vacuum Cleaner from Harvey Norman. One of the very best handstick vacuums on the market, I couldn’t believe it was mine to test for the next two weeks.
Light, powerful, easy to use – and with an amazing trick up its sleeve – this was an awesome way to start the weekend (you know you’re well into adulthood when a household appliance brings such joy)!
Anticipating the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate Handstick Vacuum
This LG handstick vacuum is underpinned by some very exciting technology. For starters, its five-step AEROSCIENCE™ system uses powerful mini-whirlwinds to efficiently separate dust particles.
It also comes equipped with a digital Smart Inverter Motor, three Power Drive attachments and a height-adjustable telescopic wand – all of which had me greatly anticipating using this device.
The LG CordZero A9 Ultimate’s First Test
It turned out that using the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate couldn’t have been easier. With three large buttons at your thumb tip, it’s super-simple to switch the power on and then select from three power levels – just press plus or minus depending on how big the mess is.
The first test I set for the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate was an easy one – the carpets on our top floor. We have only recently moved in and the floor was already covered in debris from random box off-cuts and wood fibres that had come off our flat-pack furniture.
Equipped with the standard Power Drive attachment and on the normal power setting, the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate was so smooth and quiet that it was hard to believe it had even been turned on – but the photos do not lie:
Test 2: Take the Stairs
If you have stairs in your home, you’ll know that vacuuming them is just a pain with a barrel vacuum.
Not so with the easy-to-carry, cordless LG CordZero A9 Ultimate, which I found removed almost all of the effort from this annoying task.
The LG CordZero A9 Ultimate has been weighted so that it reduces strain when you are using it, and nowhere was this more obvious than on the stairs. Quick, easy and requiring minimal effort, this got a big tick from me.
In the photo above, the 2nd and 3rd steps have been treated by the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate. The contrast with the dirt and particles on the top two is quite amazing! For further evidence of the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate’s efficiency, have a look at this below photo I took of its easy-to-empty dust canister (look away if you hate dirt!).
The LG CordZero A9’s Ultimate Trick: Mop Power!
Before we get to the final test, I think it’s about time to reveal the amazing trick I mentioned earlier – the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate’s Power Drive Mop (pictured above!).
The lower floor of our home is tiled. Cleaning this grey ceramic expanse is usually a dour, lengthy two-step affair that involves vacuuming to remove dirt, food particles and other debris followed by mopping to remove stubborn stains and footprints.
However, this little beauty somehow does both jobs at one, with a fraction of the effort and in less time. It’s both a vacuum suitable for hard floors and a mop with its own water supply!
Using the Power Drive Mop is as easy as it gets. Simply pop open the rubber valve, fill the water tank, attach the tank plus the two moistened mop pads and vacuum as you would normally. Standard marks and grime are instantly vaporised, while stubborn stains can be removed just by holding the vacuum over the spot for a few seconds. Once finished, the mop pads can be easily removed and washed.
The clever thing about the Power Drive Mop design is the rotating action of the mop pads. It’s similar to a floor buffing machine and delivers a comparable overall result. I know our floor, below, has never quite shone as brightly as it did once the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate was finished with it. It’s seriously one of the best vacuum mops going around!
The Final Test: Power Drive Your Car
Okay, so the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate certainly proved itself on the floor and stairs.
I felt this device needed a greater challenge, one that would put the AEROSCIENCE™ and Power Drive systems to the test.
Meet ‘Boo’, a four-year-old Mitsubishi Mirage owned my sister, a full-time primary school teacher. She is constantly busy preparing lessons, creating materials and planning the day. Certain things, like cleaning the car, take a back seat with a schedule like hers and unfortunately ‘Boo’s’ interior was getting on the dirty side.
What better assignment for the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate vacuum to really prove itself? Filth aplenty in a confined space – it felt like the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate was made for this very job.
We started with the crevice tool, ideal for the car’s small spaces. It made short work of the rubbish in between and underneath the car seats, gear lever and so on, even managing to swallow up a long-forgotten plastic spoon living somewhere on the Mirage’s carpet.
For the dreadfully grubby main carpet, a more powerful attachment would be needed. So, we brought out our most powerful weapon to bear – the Power Drive head that had so excelled on our house’s carpet.
It was certainly up to the job, making short work of even the ingrained dirt in the carpet. It proved to be wonderfully manoeuverable and flexible as well, even fitting underneath the front seats for a complete clean.
Making the seats spotless was another simple task for the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate. The included combination tool, featuring a brush at the end, was just perfect for loosening the embedded dust and dirt in the cloth trim. A bit of help from the Turbo Mode left the seats looking showroom-fresh.
Overall, the compact yet powerful design of the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate coupled with the flexibility of the attachments make this one of the best handstick vacuums on the market for keeping your car clean.
The LG CordZero A9 Ultimate Handstick Vacuum Has 2 Batteries!
One feature I haven’t yet mentioned – but was super impressed by – was the battery life. The LG CordZero A9 Ultimate Handstick Vacuum somehow managed to clean our combined kitchen, living and dining space with over a third of its battery still remaining.
The great thing is that even if the battery had run out before I got a chance to recharge it in the docking station, it wouldn’t have been a problem. You see, the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate comes with a second battery – so all I would have needed to do was switch the batteries, giving me another 40 minutes of runtime.
It’s Easy to Clean
In terms of ongoing maintenance, the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate vacuum requires very little. Cleaning the filters is a straightforward process. Simply twist the face of the vacuum to remove the main, jet-engine-shaped HEPA filter, pull out the cheerful yellow pre-motor filter and wash both under running water. Easy!
The main dust-separating chamber is also a cinch to remove. Cleverly, LG have designed this chamber so that it can be unscrewed from the body using the vacuum’s own crevice tool.
Simply twist, remove, and rinse under water. This part of the process was interesting for me as it provided a look inside the AEROSCIENCE™ system, and just how much fine dust it is capable of collecting.
Which Handstick Vacuum Should I Get?
Quiet, long-lasting, manoeuvrable and powerful, this is a vacuum that was designed to make life easy. The Friday I had to hand it back was decidedly less cheery than the one two weeks prior.
After a fortnight, I can safely say that if you’re in the market for a new vacuum, you should definitely check out the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate Handstick Vacuum Cleaner.
