Tiana Penitani is one of the NRLW’s most influential outside backs, bringing experience, composure and leadership to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. A centre known for her skill, athleticism and game awareness, she plays a key role in both attack and defence. 

Raised in Maroubra in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Penitani developed her love for sport from a young age. She attended Matraville Sports High School and began her rugby league journey with the La Perouse Panthers, progressing through strong local pathways that set the foundation for her elite career.

Penitani’s career spans both rugby sevens and rugby league, having debuted for Australia in sevens at just 17 before transitioning into the NRLW and international rugby league. Her experience across formats has shaped her well-rounded skillset, combining speed, instincts and strong decision making in key moments. 

Family plays a significant role in Penitani’s journey. She is one of three siblings competing at an elite level, alongside her sister Natasha in the NRLW and her brother Talanoa, who is contracted with the South Sydney Rabbitohs. 

At the Sharks, Penitani has developed into a central leader, recognised for her ability to guide her side and deliver consistently at a high level. Her 2024 season was among the most decorated in the competition, earning multiple Dally M honours and reinforcing her impact across all areas of the game. 

Off the field, Penitani balances elite sport with media and education roles. She works as a television presenter and commentator with the ABC while also contributing as Head Coach at Endeavour Sports High School, reflecting her commitment to developing the next generation of athletes.
