Dyson Pure Cool Review

I Need A Dyson Pure Cool™ Fan, ASAP!

I was in the middle of making a blueberry smoothie, when I opened up the weather app on my phone.

“Whaaaaat?!”  Purple blueberry stains went flying everywhere.

Not only was there a high level of pollution currently in the air, but we were just three days away from a record breaking 40°C November day which I wasn’t even close to ready for.

It was time to head into my local Harvey Norman store. I needed a Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan, stat.

Why the Dyson Pure Cool™ Purifying Tower Fan?

So, what convinced me that the Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan would be my saviour? Well, it was Dave.

Dave’s a writer here at Harvey’s HQ and he’s been raving about Dyson for the past couple of years.

In early 2017, Dave used another Dyson purifier – the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link™ purifying fan heater – to keep himself cool over summer and to purify the air in his place. He loved it – which you can read all about right here.

Earlier this year, Dave again got his hands on his beloved Dyson – this time for keeps. He wrote about it again here and he’s never looked back. He’s been telling me to get a Dyson fan and air purifier ever since.

With the next generation Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan now available at Harvey Norman, I had no doubt that it was the solution to my problems – I just wish I had got my hands on it earlier!

Dyson Pure Cool™ Purifying Tower Fan, The Next Generation

While Dyson’s bladeless air purifiers have always inspired loyal and passionate fans such as Dave (pun 100% intended), there truly is a lot to like about what the new generation Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan can do:

► It has the ability to project upwards of 290 litres per second of smooth, yet powerful purified air throughout your room thanks to Air Multiplier™ technology.*

Dyson Pure Cool Projects Air

► It gives you access to comprehensive, easy-to-understand air quality data. The built-in automatic air-quality sensor provides real-time monitoring of your room’s air quality levels, all of which can be accessed on the fan’s LCD screen via the remote or on your smartphone via the Dyson Link app#. Real-time data includes:

– Room temperature

– Room humidity

– Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels

– Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) levels

– PM 10 levels (Particle Matter with a diameter of less than 10 micrometers)

– PM 2.5 levels (Particle Matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers)

With Dyson Pure Cool you can monitor Air-Quality in real-time on the LCD or the Dyson Link App

► Upon detecting the above pollutants, the Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan will not only circulate purified air throughout the room*, but will also capture the nasties with its 360° fully-sealed filter system, featuring both of the following:

– An activated carbon filter to remove gases

– A glass HEPA filter that will capture 99.95% of ultra-fine particles such as microscopic allergens and pollutants as small as 0.1 microns^

► You can select settings such as fan speed and oscillation (this Dyson can rotate up to 350°!) via both the remote and Dyson Link app. You can also choose to place the Dyson fan in Auto Mode or Night Mode, both of which allow it to autonomously adjust settings based on current temperature and air pollutants. Placing it in Night Mode means that the Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan will also use quiet settings and a dimmed display.

► If you don’t need the powerful air flow of the fan, but still want to purify the air, you can simply switch to Diffused Mode, where purified air is projected through the back of the machine.

Black Dyson Pure Cool in Diffused Mode

► Not only can you control your fan and monitor air quality reports from anywhere on your Dyson Link App, you can also use it to ‘set and forget’, by scheduling what times you wish for your Dyson purifier to turn on/off over a 7-day period.#

A Dyson Review Q&A with Dave

There was no doubt in my mind that I was getting the Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan. However, just to confirm what I already knew to be the right decision, I rang Dave.

I told him I needed his help with a Q&A about Dyson for the Harvey Norman blog – and the fact that I’m including his answers right here means that was technically true… right?

You’ve been using your Dyson Air Purifier for close to 2 years now. Are you still as impressed as you were on first use?

Dave: Yes, still impressed – it’s basically become part of the family, as far as appliances go. It really makes a difference at home, not only in keeping you cool on hotter days, but also in improving the air quality.

What are your favourite features?

The Night Mode gets used all the time, but my favourite feature would have to be using the app – both to check on the air quality in my home during the day and to remotely turn on the fan or program the timer.

How often do you use the app when you’re not at home?

I’ll check it around lunch time each day at work, just to see how things are going and think about prepping the house for when I get home. Being able to set the timer via the app is very handy, especially when days suddenly get hot and you want to get the air moving.

Speaking of which, how refreshing does it feel to come home with your fan already running?

It really makes a difference to come home and not have that cloistered heat that can accumulate in one spot over the day. Knowing that you don’t have to leave the fan running all day, but can circulate the air by turning it on when you like from wherever you are is a great option to have.

What are your thoughts on Dyson fans vs. other fans?

It’s just a whole other level, really. With these Dysons you get a super-powerful fan, but because it’s bladeless it actually sounds quieter. Factoring in air purification and handy app features which other fans don’t offer… well, it’s no contest really.

I know that before you got your Dyson, you’d never used an air purifier before. Now, could you imagine life without it?

I wouldn’t go back by choice, let’s put it that way.

Do you feel as though your Dyson Air Purifier has improved your sleep quality?

Definitely. I can feel the difference in the air – in both day and night – and I’ve found that if I can breathe easier it definitely makes my sleep feel better and more restful.

Speaking of sleep, you mentioned that you use Night Mode. Can you talk more about that?

The Night Mode feature is great. The Dyson just fades into the background, reducing the airflow speed down to a level which is whisper quiet but still powerful enough to keep things cool, and the lights dim and go off as well so there aren’t any bright lights in the room to disturb me.

Now, tell us the truth… after 2 years, have you managed to get your head around how a Dyson bladeless fan works?!

Ha! Yes, I’ve read all about how the technology works – but part of me still likes to think of it as a kind of magic.

I think we already know the answer, but, in your opinion, are Dyson fans worth it?

Yes – I know I’m onboard the Dyson bus. Call me a fan of the fan – and feel free to use that pun anytime you want.

Should I buy a Dyson fan?

Wait… was this Q&A actually for the Harvey Norman blog or were you just after some free advice? Either way, I’d definitely recommend getting one!

My Own Dyson Pure Cool™ Purifying Tower Fan Review

It’s now been over a month since I got my Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan – and without doubt, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my home. Thanks, Dave!

That record breaking 40°C November day? My Dyson made sure that I didn’t even break a sweat.

Air pollution? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reviewed a day’s data, only to discover that my Dyson had lowered pollution levels without me even realising there was a problem. I’m particularly grateful for this as we’ve got a 6-month-old and we certainly don’t want her breathing in any nasties.

The Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan set up next to our daughter’s cot. Even though it’s less than a metre away, Night mode ensures it never wakes her up.

Plus, just to make sure everything is fine, I’m able to monitor the air quality in our home while I’m out and about (a.k.a. at work).

…and it’s always waaaayyy more comfortable than it is outside!

Another thing I’m able to do at work, is use my Dyson Link app to remotely control my Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying tower fan.# Usually I’ll just leave the fan on Auto mode, allowing it to autonomously adjust its settings only when the temperature or air quality deems it necessary. However, after particularly long days, I often find myself in desperate need of a refreshing breeze. So, as I’m about to leave work, I’ll manually adjust the fan.

That way, as soon as I walk in the door, an invigorating wave of air engulfs me.

Pure bliss!
