Samsung announced the latest additions to the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold Series at Galaxy Unpacked on 22 July 2026, revealing the wider, passport-style Galaxy Z Fold8, all-new flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and slimmed-down Galaxy Z Flip8.
From design shake-ups to camera upgrades, battery boosts and performance gains, there’s plenty for us to unpack. Read on for the key specs, headline features and design improvements ahead of the official release date in August.
Wider Display
The possibilities were wide open this time around (quite literally). The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 swaps the usual tall, narrow proportions for a shorter, wider 5.5-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 aspect ratio – making one-handed use and typing more comfortable when closed, then giving videos, games and side-by-side apps more room when opened.
Think bigger is better? Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra keeps the Fold’s classic form factor, pairing a 6.5-inch cover screen with an expansive 8-inch main display for more vertical viewing when closed and maximum screen space when unfolded.

Slimmer Design
Foldable phones have come a long way from their bulky beginnings, and this year’s Galaxy Z lineup is proof.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is 8g lighter and 0.6mm slimmer when folded than its predecessor, so it slips into jean pockets and small bags with even less fuss. Galaxy Z Fold8's redesigned proportions improve one-handed comfort, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra packs flagship features into a remarkably slim 4.1mm profile when unfolded.
Because slimmer shouldn’t mean scaled back – you still get the big screens, powerful performance and foldable features you came for.
Sharper Camera
This year, the biggest camera news is the arrival of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, bringing flagship photography to the foldable lineup. With a 200MP main wide-angle camera, 50MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto camera, it covers every angle with picture-perfect clarity.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 gets a wider point of view, upgrading its ultrawide camera to 50MP to give group shots and sprawling scenery the detail they deserve. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 knows how to work its angles, using FlexCam to make hands-free selfies, creative perspectives and candid pics a total breeze.
But the hardware is only half the story. Across the lineup, ProVisual Engine, Galaxy AI and Nightography do the heavy lifting behind the scenes – sharpening details, lifting low-light shots and helping everything from holiday snaps to spontaneous selfies look their best.
Powerful Performance
Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra power up with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, bringing more responsive gaming, smoother multitasking and less battery drain to the lineup. As for the Galaxy Z Flip8, the Exynos 2600 chip turns this flip phone into a pocket rocket that zips through your daily scroll, camera roll and never-ending to-do list.
It brings the brains behind Galaxy AI too. Now Brief gives you the day’s weather and schedule at a glance, Now Nudge can turn dinner plans buried in the group chat into a calendar event, while Multi Window lets you compare products as you shop or reply to messages while streaming a video. Who said you can’t be in two places at once?
Supercharged Battery
The biggest battery gains belong to the Fold lineup. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra brings flagship power with a 5,000mAh battery – the same as Galaxy S26 Ultra – while Galaxy Z Fold8 increases to 4,800mAh. On the flip side, the Galaxy Z Flip8 sticks with its existing 4,300mAh battery capacity.
What does that mean off the spec sheet? More time to power through your inbox, stream your latest obsession or doomscroll after work (no judgement here) before the low-battery warning flashes.
The Fold models have another power move up their sleeve, pairing bigger batteries with new 45W Super Fast Charging – getting you back in action sooner so a quick top up won’t put your plans on pause.
