3. They’ll be responsibly recycled through accredited processes.

Why recycle e-waste?

Generating a jaw-dropping 539,000 tonnes of e-waste each year – that's a whopping 21.7kg per person – Australia’s e-waste is piling up fast, with valuable materials that could be reused and harmful substances that need responsible management. By taking the time to recycle your old TVs, computers, printers and accessories, you can help reduce landfill waste, conserving natural resources, and supporting a circular economy. Plus, it’s free!

Where does your e-waste go?

Your e-waste is repurposed into a second life, thanks to accredited recyclers. They extract valuable materials and transform them into shiny new products, significantly cutting down on environmental harm. It's a win-win for you and the planet!

Delete your data before drop-off!

Before recycling your device, you are responsible for permanently deleting any personal data stored on it.

This includes laptops, desktop computers, external hard drives, and other IT equipment that may contain personal information.

Ensure that you:

  • Back up any files you wish to keep
  • Sign out of accounts and remove passwords
  • Perform a factory reset or secure data wipe
  • Remove hard drives or storage media where appropriate

Harvey Norman does not manage data on recycled devices. Any personal information left on a device remains the customer’s responsibility.

The Lifecycle of e-waste

1. Drop-off e-waste

It all begins when you drop off your unwanted electronics at participating Harvey Norman stores.

2. Transported to recycler

From here, collected e-waste is safely transported to dedicated recycling facilities across the country.

3. Unloaded & sorted

After arriving at the recycling facility, each e-waste item is unloaded then weighed and sorted.

4. Disassembly & separation

Skilled workers then dismantle each device by hand, removing batteries, cords, and hazardous components to ensure safe processing.

5. Resource recovery

Recovered materials like copper, aluminum, steel, plastic, and precious metals are then collected and sent for repurposing into new products.

6. Circular economy

These recovered resources are given a second life – used to create new electronics, building materials, automotive parts, and more!

7. Environmental impact

Every device you recycle helps reduce landfill, conserve natural resources, and protect our environment. Together, we’re working toward a more sustainable future.
